In the class that introduces undergraduates to wind tunnel testing, AERO 302, the use of hot-wires and fast-response pressure probes, used to measure actuator exit velocity as a function of operating frequency, is presented to the students. Additionally they perform visualizations to understand the effect that synthetic jet actuators have on the airflow surrounding a model airfoil.
