AERO 306
The goal of the CRCD implementation into the second semester structural design course is to use shape memory alloys (SMAs) to change an airfoil shape in order to optimize the lift to drag ratio. The question that follows is "Where should SMA actuators be located?" Students in this course attempt to optimally locate the SMA actuators and then predict the deformed shape of the airfoil with FEMAP. In a final step, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to predict the lift and drag coefficients.
